The Stones Of Perspective

Standing on the shores of St Columba’s Bay I am overwhelmed by its beauty. I see millions of jewel coloured stones. The beach is isolated and there is no land that I can see, but it’s what is under my feet that captures my attention. I look down and pick up a perfectly round stone. It’s beautifully round and smooth to touch and I decide to capture it with my camera. As I hold it in one hand and click the button with my other I accidentally take two pictures. One shows the stone with the background out of focus, but then the next has the background in focus and the stone out of focus. Huh, how interesting, I notice. What is my perspective? Am I so absorbed in what’s before me that I forget to look at the bigger picture or am I so focused on looking beyond today that I miss what is directly before me?

How about you?
